Stupid EM axel question?
Posted by: davemotohead ()

Are the EM car axels the same length left to right? I seem to have found different length ones and do not have a car to look at right now or my books, thanks

I don't know Dave, but there was a thread last week about '64s(?) having some kind of shim on one side behind the backing plate. You might check out that thread.

Em's are all the same... FC's are surely different than just the 5 bolt vs 4?

I remember them being longer and larger diameter.

'60 Diff. yokes.... both sides are the same....

That's all I'm remembering.

Ya that helps, and I guess 61-64 are interchange?

Axle shafts same 60 to 64 (with exception Craig notes).

FC axles have a larger bearing surface and of course 5 lugs. I never measured the length to see if it differs from car axle.

Differential yokes are the SAME length on 60s, one long and one short on 61 to 64.

I am curious as to the different length Dave saw. Could it be they were standing on their lug studs on the floor, and there was a length difference in the studs? I just saw that doing axle swapping on my 94 Caprice (bad wheel bearing). There is a difference in car vs station wagon on those, but I had the same axles, just different length studs. Lucky!
