He has shown his true colors here many times before. Nothing new.

Let's get back to bashing lifts again!

I think the EZ-Lift is a great product but it isn't for everyone. I happen to have the best lift ever but it is not the lift for you.

My portable lift has been used to;

-Lift pallets of cement roofing tile up to my new patio.
-Used to break beads on old car tires.
-Hold large pipe for bending and forming.
-Remove engines from above and below.
-Stacking engines and power trains like a pallet jack.
-Infinitely adjustable height welding platform.
-Loads part-out cars (no suspension) from the side onto my car trailer.
-Load and unload pallets and heavy objects from pickup trucks.
-Unload and move my 120 gallon IR horizontal air compressor into the shop.

Almost forgot...it also lifts my Corvairs from one side leaving plenty of room to remove the tunnel cover and access all front and rear suspension.

Okay, some people don't like the EZ Car Lift. Question -- who owns one and doesn't like it?

I don't know about owning one and not liking it but I own two of them and like them both. One is for Corvairs and one is for my Bianchina.

I'd love one of those EZ lifts, but don't have the ability to make large dollar purchases - like around $2K, after shipping. Nifty little piece of equipment for the hobbyist that can afford it. I've been dealing with an injured left shoulder for a while now, so I haven't been doing any under-the-car work, because I can't get from the ground back into my wheelchair, and a two/four-post lift is NOT in my low-income future. LOL Happy New Year to all and Happy Wrenching!

Wouldn't be much use to me in my garage but I do like it. I'm assuming they don't make them anymore.

I've seen modern versions of this type of lift but you are correct, UNIC has not made the one I have for many years. This one was made in 1982.

I ordered the EZ car lift, and finally pulled the engine out of my wifes Trans Am! This car sat for over 5 years, as getting the engine/trans out is almost impossible without a car lift. I will use it to put in my 140 when the cylinder heads get back from the shop. Well worth the expense as it is much safer than using jack stands!

They don't really like small corded drills, either. I used my purchase of the EZ Carlift as an excuse to buy a really Heavy Duty Milwaukee drill. (Made in USA). It has no problem lifting and dropping the EZ car lift. My 1/2" drive Black & Decker, almost new at the time, wasn't "happy" trying to raise the lift. (That ozone smell) You will like the lift!

Dave,

Do you think you could use it for storing a car?
Lift up a vehicle, rotate it 90 degrees, park two other vehicles on either side.

Like stacking "Jenga blocks? Yes, if you have the clearance. The lift can safely move a partially raised vehicle (like seen in the video above) as long as you keep the lift below the recommended height for that. Once it is spun 90-degrees you raise it up fully. The lift has mechanical lockouts so it won't slowly settle all the way down after weeks in the air.

BTW...I found another use for my lift. It came in handy to unload and move a large 800 lb roll of artificial grass off my car trailer and into my back yard last fall. smiling smiley

That is a cool lift Dave. I'm going to keep an eye out for one. What is the weight capacity?

Rating plate shows 5000# capacity but I've stayed well under that. I've also got in the habit of using under-hoist tripods for extra safety if I might do anything to shift the load while I'm underneath. For routine service work it is quite stable enough.

I see these UNIC lifts every so often for sale and people PM me about them due to my video on YouTube. There is another version like this that runs on 220VAC but I would not want the cord in my way. I just replaced the battery in December after owning the lift for six years. Not bad battery life for sitting outside most of that time in Phoenix. I keep a trickle charger on it.

I have seen modern versions of this type of lift on Google but can't vouch for their quality or stability. This is not the perfect lift for everyone but it is perfect for me. I seldom work in the garage (8' ceiling) but fortunately I have a large area of nearly dead-flat concrete which is what this thing needs. If you have a sloped drive or anything but smooth concrete you would not be happy rolling this around.

Pic below shows our Cactus Corvair club Pres David Dean and Fred Bagnall working on Fred's Corsa after it had some issues during a cross-country run from Cali to Florida. You'll see I have work tables on wheels that I roll around under the vehicle for oil changes and service work so everything stays right at my side.

I would want the A/C version so I didn't have one more thing to buy batteries for. The 90K lift I bought has a battery version but I certainly didn't want to have 6 of them to worry about batteries for. I may look at modifications to make them work like your lift. They are 15K each post and much smaller.
Does yours have a safety catch to hold it up?
