Greenbrier Seat belts mounting 2nd. & 3rd. Row seats
Posted by: rmvair ()

Just purchased a 65 Greenbrier would like to install seat belts for 2nd (rear facing) row seat and 3rd row seat.
Currently fully carpeted can't see floor. Are there seat belt mounting holes? Dimples?
Plan to add 2nd row belts to front seat mounting bolts. OK?

Have spent a few hours going thru forums haven't found anything specific?

Thanks

Ron,
Here are the instructions for installing seat belts for the rear seats from the '65 Accessories Installation Manual.

Not familiar with FC's, but my Parents always had a Chevy van of some sort while growing up.
In the full size vans, Chevy had the seat-belts bolted to the seat frame.
When you pulled the seats for hauling cargo, the belts came right out with them.

I have seen belts attached to the seat frame in a Greenbrier or two over the years. Have to keep in mind that the 4 seat mounting carriage bolts are just 5/16.
This may give some safety in a real minor collision, but anything more, there is a chance of the seat breaking lose from it's mounting bolts.
But come to think of it... about any large collision will be severe in our 50+ year old FC's, No matter how well belted in one is!

For the best attachment, I would go with the sheets Steve posted here. But in reality when driving any vintage vehicle.... crash safety back then was not a great leading engineering concern. Just have to be extra cautious, like I try to be when I'm on my motorcycle.

While this is not exactly what you are looking for, if you want to see one way to securely reinforce seat belts, see here.

Thanks everyone.
Steve, those instructions will be a big help, thank you!
Corventur Dave, yes, those 5/16" bolts won't hold that much! Maybe go to Grade 8 5/16 bolts? Not sure how strong those floor brackets are?
Also not planning on expressway trips either but even slow speed mishaps can be a major problem.
Thanks again!
