Dude, seriously... I think I might have some questions for my mother. Is it just me or is this my long lost Corvair Daddy? If so, I could use a new Convertible top grinning smiley

Yeah that's Herb Berkman at the 78 convention. He won the Ed Cole award there (first time it was awarded). He was also president of Corsa and was at the time a
Corsa West member. Though I was driving a Corvair and living in So Cal and I knew the convention was in San Diego and I had just graduated from high school, I had no dough so
did not make it down there.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe Herb has been the only face on the cover of the COMMUNIQUE. I recall Ed Cole was on the cover of a CORSA QUARTERLY.

Steve, does Ralph Nader sitting in a black early convertible at the DC Convention count as a face picture? Of course there are other people in the shot also.

I do not remember any large face shots on Communiques either. I do remember the attempt at swimsuit issues. And the controversy it started!grinning smiley

Yeah - I kept the actual plates. But they were Blue and Yellow, not black. One went to England with Rick Norris' Sunoco race car. I still have three of them (It is a long story) But someone else in California now has the official "Yenko" personalized plates on a car. Probably an older Camaro. YS003, now looking quite different, was restored and is in Missouri, as Texas YENKO Dude notes. At the San Diego Convention, I was 3rd or 4th in the Edward N. Cole competition. That was the first "National" Cole competition. The award was created by North Texas Corvair and was first awarded at their "Corvair Round-up" event, earlier in 1978.

You are correct Frank, I had forgotten about Nader.

And yes the swimsuit edition slipped my mind and that
is really bad since the two ladies gave me a framed
pic that is on the wall here at the shop.

The lesson learned here is be careful of absolute
statements because it is usually wrong.
