Met a guy on FB last night who is the crew chief for this Water bomber, he invited me out to check it out, got the full tour and tutorial, amazing machine! thumbs up

Yup Erickson Sky Crane is just north of Medford on the west side of I-5... they lease them all over the world.. Amazing machine!

A number of years ago,we were building Amy's Kitchen expansion in Medford,right next to a Erickson's air crane landing/service pad. It was awesome to watch it and the crew tinker with it and fly it in and out during our lunch breaks.

Yup! Gas Turbines / Jets are air cooled INTERNALLY....some of the compressor air is routed thru passages to keep thing from melting... internal temps reach 3,000f

Oil is air cooled in flight and most ground based units...

Yes, there's a cooler that looks to be about two foot square in area on the top deck to the right of the reservoirs and pumps. It's got its own fan.

Here's a short video in case anyone is curious. It's the same one that Dave visited.

All of Erickson's Sikorsky S-64's are named. This one is "Malcolm."
