OT: When do you "put up" your Christmas decorations?
Posted by: rnch ()
Date: November 16, 2017 06:25AM

Inside tree, wreath, front of house decorations......

I was raised to think that any Christmas decorations done before Thanksgiving day was "common and tacky" (as we say here in the South.)

Wadduathunk?

Up here North of the Mason-Dixon line, if your decorations aren't up by Thanksgiving you can put them up in 20 degree temperatures. It's all about choices. Make good ones.

Yes I can understand your point.

Here in New Orleans, I have installed outdoor lights & other Christmas decorations in shorts and T-shirt, with sweat rolling off my forehead & down into my eyes.

Somewhere around Turkey day, depending on Weather and work schedule, the Christmas lights outside start to appear at our house.

Inside? Depends on whether we plan to stay in town for Christmas or go visit my Parents in PHX!!

with 34+ years in the Airline business, I rarely had the holidays off, so our schedule has always been skewed a bit. Christmas or Thanksgiving "Day" were based on my days off closest to the actual date. We learned to adapt.

Now that I finally have a "Back Office" position, it's hard to get used to NOT having to work on the Holidays.

Mel has the correct answer! For us it's the weekend after Thanksgiving. Take down the Halloween lights and put up the Christmas lights. Usually cold and raining.

Putting UP the outside lights isn't much of a problem. Doing it when you are not getting pelted with rain, snow and sleet is good. grinning smiley

"Turning them on" is a different thing entirely! eye rolling smiley

We wait for the day after Thanksgiving to turn the outside lights on and may wait a week before putting up the Tree and inside lights (I know it is called "Black Friday" but that means DON'T GO NEAR SHOPPING MALLS to me!!). eye popping smiley

Local stores start 'selling' Christmas stuff in September! WAY too early for me! sad smiley

I was raised in the '50's when it was heresy to put ANYthing Christmas out before the day after Thanksgiving. Nowadays, stores have the stuff on the shelves some time between Labor Day and Halloween. eye popping smiley Pretty soon it'll be crowding out the Fourth of July.

Christmas has become more and more commercialized every year, and the more they advertise it, the less interested I get in celebrating it.tongue sticking out smiley

I think I'm just going to get a Jack-o-lantern pumpkin, put a Pilgrim hat and a Santa beard on it, a flag shawl around it, and call it a day.angry smiley

Decorations? Bah, humbug!

Sad. A radio station here in Phoenix switched to 24-hour Christmas music before the kids were even done smashing Halloween pumpkins.

When I was in Chicago there were noticably more lights out over Christmas if November was warm. One year it was so warm that I had blooming petunias in my front yard in mid-December. I had quite the light display that year too.

I like to put the tree up around Thanksgiving or even before. The tree is so much work that it's nice to have some time to enjoy it.

Okay,
The Christmas Lights came on as the "dusk sensor" detected low light levels sometime between 3:00 and 3:30 pm this evening.

It is Official! thumbs up
