Could think about SEM vinyl paint if you don't get any bites.

A retired GM PARTS DEPT MGR found his CORVAIR PARTS MANUAL this evening. 1972 edition.

In 1968, all CORVAIR colors are listed for the door lock knobs.

But, in 1969, only the chrome lock knobs are listed.

My friend thought GM did not bother with all the colors in 1969, due to the low anticipated production.

So, thinking the chrome was WRONG for '69, turns out to be CORRECT for '69.

Matt, I am guessing that he does not need ANY.
His last sentence makes it sound like he has Chrome, but thought they were wrong.

The 1969 500 "Raffle Car" has green door lock knobs. I suspect the 500's had color knobs and the Monza had chrome.

Hi Dave,

The raffle car is where this thread began.

Jim, with the raffle car from Pittsburgh, brought his green car next to mine.

He took pics of my car for his resource.

GM parts book only shows chrome knobs for the '69.

However, green knobs and other color knobs are shown for '68 models.

As a follow up to the door lock knob concern, I went to the GM HERITAGE INFORMATION for '69 Corvair.

In that listing it shows door lock knobs in trim color for the 500 and the Monza in 1969.

Now I really don't know which way to turn.

Want it to be correct.

I have 2 69 Monza Coupes. Both loaded out and un-molested. #827 and #880. When I go by the warehouse, I'll take a look and see what they have. 827 has a black gut and 880 the light green. They are both projects, but I believe the knobs are there.

I wouldn't suggest using the parts book for a color reference - Most of the time GM collapsed the part numbers down to a single color choice for replacement parts.

Yea, I understand your point, the Corvair parts manual was a 1972 edition, don't know if the yet collapsed the numbers since all colors were still being listed for the 1968 model.

Last comments on the knob crisis.

The chrome knob, # 8740200 is correct for the 1969 500 AND Monza.

Three colors, black, blue and gold knobs are shown for 1968 and none of the

years in the parts catalog show green.

Amen.

Thanks for assistance, as well.

My 69 had medium green knobs. I have them in a box in my garage. My 68 also has green knobs. Both cars came from factory with them. Now my other green 68 with black interior came with black knobs

Having a close friend who has over 20 1969 model year Corvairs I can tell you that they should be chrome. My 69 has chrome as well.

Go to group 10.559 in your parts book and look for the part number for green

knobs.

I tried.

Did 1968 offer a green interior ?

A word of caution on the "green" colors for '68 and '69, they are different. The '68 color is actually a variety of a gold color and properly called "Ivy gold" and the '69 color is "medium green". Unfortunately, a number of the interior parts of the two will sun-burn out to about the same color. Hence Clark's "green-gold", a term that is like the provervial fingernail across a chalk board to me. Hey Cal, how many times do I have to tell you, there is no such thing as "green-gold"! LOL
