FOUND!! : Rear Air Outlet Grille for a 63
Posted by: allmotor1 ()

Bueller? Anybody?

When I got my 63 Corvair it came with a 64 Outlet Grille. To keep things original does anyone have a fantastic shape 63 grille they would trade?

For what it is worth, I have been keeping my eye out for a 1962-1963 rear grille for several years now and have not seen anything better than poor to fair being advertised or otherwise made available.

While I am sure that there are possibly one or two still out there, they have not yet surfaced as far as I have seen. Be patient and maybe you will find something.

What would a driver quality piece be worth.

I seem to remember it had one small dent on the very end and didn't look bad.

I didn't know what it fit until I saw this post and another not long ago. Been in storage since 1997 after Dad passed and I didn't know what year it fit.

But I do believe it is the one you have pictured, I would have to go back and look, to be sure!

Sorry I realized I mistyped my above post.

I believe I have one in my storage building and was describing it's condition.

I was just curious what it would sell for if I decide to sell it.

Wasn't talking about the trim, sorry was talking about the rear grill.

No I was asking the price on the front trim piece, I do have one of those.

I mentioned the rear grill because the topic of stripping aluminum came up, and I shared how I did mine on the 60.

Sorry for any confusion. But I only have the front trim piece.

Well there is an NOS 62/63 rear air grill listed in the Corsa classifieds but it's a bit on the pricy side.

Seems I remember a NOS 62-63 for sale not long ago for around $500.
Yep, should have bought a bunch of them from GM back when I had no money in the
late 1960's!eye rolling smiley

I sold a very nice one at the convention. Marty Katz has had a few NOS ones on and off the last few years. He sold one at the convention for a reasonable price too. Or what I would consider reasonable.

I would think that anywhere between $500.00 to $700.00 would be pricey but $1,500.00 is downright expensive.

On the bright side, if it is available and you need or want it bad enough, it is often worth the price for a rare part. When it isn't available at all, it is worth more. It all comes down to "How bad do you want it?"

I also noted the seller which confirms why the asking price is what it is. JMO

IF I were building a concours quality show car that would rarely be driven and was not sparing any expense, I would be happy to pay the price if the car needed it to be "Correct and perfect".

With that said, I doubt I will ever be in that position which means that a driver quality piece would work for me.

I have always said that todays crazy prices will be tomorrows bargains, however, I believe that in this case tomorrow might be years away. I don't believe that either the nose bar, or the 1962/1963 rear air grille will be reproduced anytime soon. Possibly, maybe, in 6- 8 years, unless someone with deep pockets takes on this very expensive project.

I absolutely agree to that to an extent. I also believe there's a line between car value and part value. There will always be somebody out there that wants a specific part for specific car because they have a show car or museum piece. As with anything it's supply and demand but for me there has to be a point where I have to be happy with the supply that's out there. I was rather fortunate to find this New Old Stock for the right price. I think it's a great thing that there are people out there holding on to some of these parts that others can use. Kudos to all of you
