OT - Packard 59 Terminals

Can you use Packard 59 Terminals in place of Packard 56?

Where is the best place to buy BRASS Packard 59 Terminals at a good price?

FYI - WAYTEK and a couple other places do not have the BRASS or Copper ones.

You CANNOT use Series 59 in place of Series 56. Series 59 terminals are wider and require connector shells with wider cavities. (Look at headlight connectors for examples).

Note that the common "Tin plated" terminals are "Tin Plated" BRASS. I suspect copper is too soft for terminals. Tin is corrosion resistant; unplated brass is considered inferior.

If you need to wire with larger gauge wire, there are Series 56 terminals designed for up to 12 gauge wire. Series 56 HD

Yes, nothing wrong with plated brass terminals.

Copper would have no strength to hold spring tension.

Thank you Craig.

I knew the 59 were wider. What I did not know and you confirmed it for me; Was the fact that the 56 connectors are not designed to allow the 59 terminal to fit. And that is what I needed to know. thumbs up

I hoped that they would fit. That way I could have purchased one style and size terminal. Oh well..

Thank you Ken.

I had missed that when I looked late last night.
Now that I enlarged the screen - so I can see it better on my TV across the room - I now notice the * Terminals are made of non-plated brass

Thank you!

• Current capability: 0-20 amps
• One terminal is needed for each cavity (must be
ordered separately)
• Terminals are made from tin plated brass, unless
otherwise noted

Thank you Ken for the first link - it will work for the Packed 56 that I will need, now that I am 100% sure I can not use a 59 in their place.

The second link you provided for the 59 terminals - They want you to order 1500 at a time and I would prefer brass - no plating - if at all possible.

But maybe I'll have no choice.
