OT - Need ideas for a heat gun stand..
Posted by: OttawaCorvairGuy ()

I need a stand that will allow the heat gun to face upwards.

I will be using a tool like this on the end of the heat gun to help heat up the shrink tube much faster and more even.

Clamp the heat gun in a bench vice? It's what I've done.

Good idea Eric.

My bad. I forgot to mention that I am working inside at the dining room table and would like some kind of stand that cold be used anywhere.

if you can weld you could fab one easily with a piece of steel plate and some wire rod, if you don't weld substitute the steel plate for a piece of plywood and some wire rod.

I have a small vice that attaches by vacuum, use on the dinning room table all the time, doesn't mean the wife approves.

The heat guns we use at work are made by Steinel, are two speed, variable temp and will stand on end. No need for a holder

Hey Tom.

Thank you for the input. I'm not sure what model you are talking about. I looked at some and they cost $275USD and up...
That is a little bit much for a heat gun while I am testing the waters, so to speak.
There are not that many Ultravans and thus Ultravan owners to have enough orders to cover the cost of a heat gun like that.
However, It would be nice to own.
FYI - The one I plan to get cost only $29.97 Canadian.

That HF unit is a Master brand copy. They come with their own stand. The Milwaukee ones I mentioned also stand on their end without trouble (don't shake the table).

I have an ancient 20 Amp model by Master (yes, has 12awg cord). I made the curved attachment like in the first picture out of scrap copper and a hose clamp. Shrinks big (1" not that big....) cables with ease. Don't touch the curved end while using it!thumbs up
