I agree with Cepak and others. This car was painted badly. The rust “repair” looks like it consisted of a bunch of bondo, and it was half-assed at that. It tells me a lot about how the rest of the work was done. Too bad. They took one of the really rare, desirable Vairs and did a car-lot job on it.

If I just wanted a 20-footer, I’d be interested in the car for $5k or so. It does seem pretty solid, but correcting the issues on this car would require a full-blown restoration, and wouldn’t be less work or money than a “project” car for a fraction of the cost.

I have pictures of the body plate and engine SN. Its a real turbo car and engine is correct and probably original to the car. TO517RL

It was also ermine white originally.

What he said!
Interior is originally bronze. So it was original White on bronze with a black top.

What does the rivet look like for 1966 WRN cars?

Agree that one looks like a standard pop rivet.

While this Corvair sounds desirable, the more research that is done on it the worse it gets! Originally white with a bronze interior? Kind of an odd color combination... I wonder if the seller is tuning in to this thread?

Man you guys are good. You scared the crap out of me when you mentioned the rivets. I ran out to check a Corsa convertible I bought last year to check the rivets. All good.

So, I asked the seller about that:

"From the picture of the body tag that you provided, it appears that the tag is affixed with rivets that are not of the original style, suggesting that it has been replaced. Can you comment on that?"

And his response:

"Do not know, that is the way it was when I got the car 17 years ago."

Therefore, anyone interested in this car should proceed under the assumption that it is potentially a "rebodied" 1966 Corsa Turbo Convertible.

AND they should have someone they trust go look at the car to assess the condition of the body, drive train etc.

Over and out.

Mike

Well. with that disclaimer the price needs to drop considerably. The only real thing about the car is that it's a LM coupe. Really sad that a great car may be worth very little.
