LM Strut rod installation (installation tips wanted)
Posted by: Jamison82 ()

Before I go round two with the strut rods on my 65 Cora’s, can anyone tell me if there is a recommended method for installation.

Mine are connected at the wheels and I am atempting to reconnect the 4 bolt mount to the drivetrain.

Mark the index position on the rear camber adjustments, then loosen the nut so that area has more flex. Also using a jack under the trailing arm to raise it helps, too.
Get the bolts started but don't tighten them until all 4 are started.

I have struggled with installing of the struts and have tried different methods. The one that works best for me is installing the front transmission mount to the trans/engine assembly then allow the rear of the engine to drop down a few inches. This should create the correct angle that will allow the struts to easily bolt up to the differential. Then jack up the rear of the engine and bolt up the mount.

I've had luck using a jack to lift the wheel into "ride height position". Those four bolts go in much easier then.

As a FYI....Dave has the Crown Lowering Bracket on his transaxle...so the process is slightly different.

I've also used a jack to raise the wheel end of the rod.

I had the same issues when I replaced my inner bushings. All of the comments are good. I had to loosen the diff bracket until the bolts were only a few threads in and also put a jack under the trailing arm and lift it to ride height. It was still a little fussy but otherwise it would have been impossible.
