If you put it in backwards it will not flow enough fuel, don't ask how I know!

My 1962 Monza has the original metal screens in them, which brings about the question, when did GM change to the bronze stones?

Believe Bob Helt. If you don't have his book and your tinkering with your carb's, buy the book before you make a mistake. Like the filter, you may forget some important things.

Did Chevrolet ever have original/ standard metal screens? All I have ever seen were the sintered bronze filters. Even my original 1962 monza came with the sintered filters.

I found metal screens in a pair of carbs from a carb rebuilder in Florida. didn't know they existed until then.

That is because they are not correct for a Corvair Carb, the Florida Guy has sent out lots of Bad/incorrect carbs, NONE of the 1000's of carbs I have rebuilt ever had a metal screen in them, I have found early carbs with leather accelerator pump cups but never a metal inlet screen, I have also had very early carbs and 100's of NOS carbs all the way back to 59, NONE had a metal inlet screen.

I have found the small similar size paper filters.. squeezed, forced, jammed and crushed into a couple HV carburetors, over the years. Obviously someone thought they would fit and filter better than the sintered filters! hot smiley

I ran across 2 bags of Clark's carb screws and gaskets today that had metal screens. I meant to look up the number to see what the description was but alas...
