Trunk tumbler

I looked at it and would like to change my 67 lock tumbler with my 65 as I have a collectors key for the 65. Is it just a 'snap ring' that holds them in? Kinda hard to discern with the plate spot welded over the whole assembly. Is there a special tool for this?

The trunk lock is held in by a metal spring clip. You have to remove the grill bar to gain access to the lock assembly. However, the lock assemly for a 65 is differnt than a 66 and later I dont believe that they will interchane in the grill bar.

The lock cylinder in a 65 grill bar is physically different than a 66 to 69 lock cylinder. I do not think the 65 will fit into a 66 to 69 grill bar and work right.

Also the lock cylinder keyway changes every year on the 66 to 69 trunk lock, but they will physically fit any 66 to 69 grill bar.

Either style is held into the grill bar with a clip like a door lock uses. And as Marco says, the grill bar has to be removed to do this.
