Any Corvair Parts New at GM Dealer?
Posted by: JP_REX ()

This may be a stupid question, but are there any parts that could be used on my 67 coupe that I can buy new from a GM dealer?

I have a coupon for $100 off any parts or service purchase over $100 from a GM dealer, and I'm trying to think of a way to put the coupon to good use.

Thanks!

I don't think there are many parts beyond hardware. How about wheel alignment?

I have heard stories from local long time Corvair guys that GM purged most of the Corvair parts inventory in the late 70's. This is where a lot of the NOS parts stashes have come from.
Things you might find would be the black plastic door lock buttons (which were used on full size GM trucks up to 1991).The 1968-69 style Window cranks with the black knobs (which were used on G body models up to 1988).
Maybe an oil pressure switch? The 65-69 Indak heater blower resistor was used on full size G Vans through the 80's and into the early 90's.
The brake light switch was used through the 70's on other models.
There are some other things that I can't think of, but they will be items shared with other model lines.
Corvair specific parts are unfortunately long gone.

I used to go into my local GM dealer in the late 80's early 90's and buy stuff like fuel sending units, fuel pumps, and what ever they had in stock, then one day I went in and they told me they cleaned the shelves of all old stock and tossed it in the trash! They still have old Vett parts though.

Headlight switch was used long after Corvairs were gone.

The only parts available through a GM dealer are things that are being reproduced because they were also used on other cars like Novas, Chevells, Camaros. They can be ordered from "GM Vintage Parts" catalog but nearly all of them are the same parts being repoped under license and also sold by the major Corvair vendors. I could be wrong, but don't think there are any Corvair specific parts available from GM, even from GM Vintage.

A few years ago they still stocked the plastic headlight adjuster part. It fit other things also.

The little sock that slides onto the fuel pick-up is still at the dealers. Probably the O-ring for the fuel pick-up/float assembly.
