New Wheels and Tires on the Car!
Posted by: Kyle_in_Mich ()
Date: October 24, 2017 05:57AM

I finally got my new wheels in the mail, tires mounted and balanced up and threw them on the 65 Corsa.

I like it. I was worried they were going to be a bit big but they turned out just right. The HD springs haven't settled, but I think I am going to be cutting one coil out either way.

Once the rain clears up a bit I will get it outside for a few better photos.

Wheels are Team III wheels LT-III Model

Front- 17x7 with 4" backspacing. 215/45R17 (very close overall diameter to stock. Speedo will still be correct-ish)

Rear- 17x8 with 4.5" backspacing. 225/50R17

Looks sharp! Agree. It will look sharp a little lower.

Speedo error is the very last thing I am concerned about with new tires. I just note the difference comparing it to a GPS or smartphone display and then enjoy the drive.

I like being able to have other people drive my car without a big explainer on everything you have to keep in mind. Trying to keep it pretty simple.

I'll admit I do use GPS these days though...

The wheels look great. Just be careful with the front wheel back spacing. If you add disc brakes, the rotor thickness will push the wheels out further so if the rotors are .25" thick it will be like having a rim with 3.75" back spacing.
My experience with 4" back spacing on a 7inch rim led to a lot of tramlining at highway speeds that got worse when I added disc brakes.

A good note Lee. I thought about going to disks down the line but decided I really don't need them. I don't plan to put a significant horsepower increase in this car so well setup drums should be plenty for me.

I like them. I found a similar place for my hubcaps, they make excellent wall art. Thinking about making one into a clock.

Once the insulation and drywall is up they will get a proper home but this works for now!

The wheels look great. They sort of look like mini lights and I have always wondered what those would look like on a vair.

That was my thought. My grand goal is to build this to be a tribute if a Corvair would have run in the Trans Am series. I have an extra decklid and hood to paint flat black and might do vinyl door numbers.

It really needs the front end to come down in my opinion. the nose high stance is just awkward looking.

Very Can-Am-esque wheels. Gorgeous car, and those complete the look!

Definitely thought 17's would look too large, but those fit nicely.

Matt, I see it now!! On my small phone screen with the difference in lighting I had not noticed yours before. Although it looks like Kyle's are a little different.
