Yes a gasoline engine. The owner is in the San Diego area. He was at the SCC show and after talking with him I got the impression he did a good job on the conversion. Needs some cosmetic work, but he's a younger fellow with a family and budget. He enjoys driving it and it must be reliable if he's driven it from San Diego to both the L.A. SCC show and the GWFBT.

I did talk to the guy with the Nissan for quite a while .... I was so impressed with his clean install, I voted for his car for best of show.... bondo and all!! Anyways, the Nissan engine is gas, not diesel.

There was a red Rampside with a mid-mounted diesel at the Maggie Valley show. Was very nice but I didn't get any pictures.

Any idea how to get in touch with the owner of the diesel Rampside? Or anyj other diesel-powered Corvair?

Slightly OT.
Back when I was still playing with my S30 Black Pearl, I penciled out putting a Maxima I-6 diesel into one, putting a small turbocharger on it, gearing it high and making it into a long distance cruiser.
Given that it doesn't take a lot of power to move an S30 down the road at 80-90 mph (with proper aerodynamic additions), it would have had sufficient torque to get off the line in city driving.
But best of all, it calculated to >40 mpg!
I've only seen one rather badly cobbled up S30 diesel at a show, done badly on a shoestring budget. But if one were done cleanly with some attention to details, it'd be a Really interesting car.
(We now return you to your regular discussion, already in progress.)

In 1978 Nissan released a Black Pearl Edition 280Z, as a test market device to determine if the color black should be added to the Z-car model line colors.

Sorry I don't know how to get in touch with the diesel Rampside owner. I spoke with him briefly, learned that his dad had started the project and he finished it, was at the Helen and Maggie Valley shows so probably lives within a couple hundred miles of that region.

I'm sure it drives like any powerful Corvair! Go to meets in SoCal and I'll bet he shows up!

The diesel rampside had a 350 based diesel, like in the full size GM cars of the 80,s. I didnt get a pic but it was a clean install!
