Thanks guys! So just to confirm I would need the following on the website:

For the gauges/turn signals I would need : BA9S-GHP5- 8 total? I am thinking green for all of them.

the website is: [www.superbrightleds.com]

Are you going to have a green hi been indicator, also? Need a white under the red lens. Or change your lens to blue like newer cars, but still need white bulb.

Here is my setup.

New green disks for the turn indicators made from the cover of a Cascade plastic box. Blue Hi-beam indicator made from a hanging folder from the office. They were tested with OEM lighted bulbs before being glued in. BA9S 6000k 20LM LED white bulbs installed in the panel lights, turn signal indicators and the Hi beam indicator. Illumination at night is great. not real bright.

10 pack for $8.29 on eBay (free shipping)

What I did research is that the flat BA9s bulbs with one 5050 chip has a lumens rating of only 15 lumens. Someone who has used them would have to comment on the night driving with these bulbs that have 5 less lumens. My 20 lumens bulbs are perfect in my opinion.

I dig it! no you're right, I'd want white for the turn signals. For the gauges I want green. So keep the original bulbs for the warning lights, get two white bulbs for the turn signals and then 6 green bulbs for the gauges? Sorry for all the questions, I am just trying to get the count figured out.

You want the LED color to be the same as the lens or filter, otherwise you BLOCK light. Red for red, green for green, amber for amber. White is mostly a combination of other colors, so you want a clear lens.

I have pretty good blue and green indicators with white bulbs behind them. They look much better sitting behind the wheel than the photo shows. I will stay with the 20 lumens white bulbs instead of putting in green & blue 15 lumens bulbs. JMO.

White LEDs work of course for green turn signal indicators or a red high beam indicator but it does seem odd to use a near UV LED to excite a phosphor coating inside the LED to simulate a white light output only to filter it all back out to one color like green or red. grinning smiley

The bulbs as I understand them are to illuminate the disc that is front of them in the tube at the appropriate time when conditions are met. I don't think the red, green or blue disks are really a filtering device in the context they are being used. As compared to colored filters on a camera.

But if you have right colored bulbs for the proper position, you can get rid of the plastic disks which will reduce the light intensity of the colored LEDs if they are left in place. Am I correct in this point?

Wow. 1 colored bulb cost as much as 10 white bulbs. Well it is up to the owner of the Vair and the level of their frugality how they go about the LED conversion.

10 bulbs for $7.20 that's less than a buck a piece, free shipping. You can get 10 bulbs for less than a buck, cool.

My whites were 10 pack for $8.29 on eBay (free shipping). Seen colors on Ebay close to that also. Might have to wait to get from China is the only drawback.

The disc is a filtering device if it filters white light down to only green or red, of blue.

I showed off my LM Monza LED dash at the club meeting last night. Both turn signals used green LEDs but only one side had the green OEM disc installed. Everyone agreed that the turn signal without the disc did not look uniformly lit and gave the appearance that the bulb was dislodged or installed wrong. I will use a disc for sure on my installs. Same thing on the high beam.

My LED conversion is different in that it has very bright white LEDs for daytime illumination and dimmable blue LEDs for night use. When the car is running during daylight, the white LEDs are dominant. When you turn on the headlights, the white LEDs turn off and the blue LEDs turn on and then can be dimmed as required. This requires a full instrument panel disassembly so it's not a plug-n-play solution.

Dave:

That is good info to know on the discs. I have 2 Corsa panels to modify, so the discs will stay in. The red hi beam indicators will become blue though.

I am now thinking of putting LED lights in the Camaro panel. I have done all the exterior in LED with the headlights being halogen. I just might go with blue panel lights, since it is a blue car. But since I have a few extra white bulbs from the 3 Vair panels, they will be used for the hi beam and turn signals. Console lights will also be blue. As a side note, I got rid of the Camaro dome light and will be installing 67 Camaro sail panel lights with led panels. That will really show off the interior. I will be looking to putting sail panel lights in my Coupe.

Do you have directions on how to remove the cluster in order to replace the bulbs with LEDs and paint? I have a LM 500 that I was interested in doing this to but deferred until I knew how to replace the pod. Thanks in advance.

To get whole panel out is a job. It is best to have other tasks to do at the same time as the light bulbs. If you Rr a girls enough you can get most bulbs out without removing the panel. Get a photo of the backside of the panel showing bulb locations. Then you can reach up and pop out bulb holders out one at a time to change bulbs.

Thanks for the reply. Thats what I was afraid of. I tried the whole wedge hands in behind and replace bulb thing but my hands are not small enough... I was able to replace 1. I guess I wait til I have cause to do more in there and take panel out.

I appreciate the counsel.

If you got to take it out, lots of caution with head light switch. Take your time. Start at the bottom removing screws and heat controls, then wiper switch, head light switch, then upper screws. Leave PG selector on, if possible, if only changing instruments or bulbs.

Regarding head light witch removal after you disconnect battery. Pull light switch all the way out. Reach on top of the switch behind the panel and find the plunger. Slightly push in switch, then depress plunger. It should depress easily to switch housing. Pull switch knob and shaft out. Had to do mine 3 times in matter of a couple of weeks, so I learned mine. Original switch was defective, so I swiped the one from my coupe to get the More Door running.
