Okay, here is a thought for you.
If you wanna go completely crazy!
If the engine is too wide to go between the rails,
then mount it above the rails facing in the correct direction and, . . .
mount a boat V-drive unit where the radiator should be!
Run a shaft to the tranny going under the engine!

The w8dth is important, but just important how you mount it using front and rear mounts. Is it possible to use side mounts somewhere on the case that will hold the torque.

If you could then you could use dual fans driven off the crankshaft with pulleys sized to adjust speed of fans to proper cooling speed at idle. Now that would be neat.

The saving grace of your idea is the 4 speeds of the trans... makes up for loss of Torque

Get a hold of Ray's Dyno / 380 hp Corvair video here... He uses your setup in his dragster... he can supply the Adapter plate and tell you what flexplate to use.

A shortbed 64 chevy truck actually has some value to it these days. Find a flletside bed for it and bag that sucker. 350's are everywhere

Probably at shows, most people go to drivers side first after seeing engine. Got to see what the dash looks like. Not much typically on passenger side.

I guess.
Ultimate would have been to make it scissor-lift straight up!
But then we are talking several more cubic dollars.

Take the $200 140hp engine, clean it up, sell it, and use your half of the profit to fund the purchase of a 350 for the 64 pickup and then sell it for $4k. cool smiley

Tom,

I think it would be seriously under powered, The 140 is almost nearly 1/2 the cubic inches of the original straight six, plus the straight six has 1.5 times the stroke over the 140 which gives the straight six a huge torque advantage. not to mention the excess weight of the PU truck. Cool idea none the less.

The 292 6 cylinder truck engine is one of the best ever made.

Bob & Diane Galli put 120,000 miles on UltraVan #504 at 5,800 lbs. They traveled all over the USA, sometimes on only 5 cyls (intake valve failure on the way to a rally).

Bob custom built a 110 engine with squish heads and a 95hp cam with 4deg offset crank gear. Basically the engine I was trying to copy with my build for #500. Not sure what axle he used though.

I don't know why it would be considered to be underpowered, an 80hp Rampside has a higher GVWR than a 64 C10.And since you are probably never going to haul a load, it should have plenty of pep.
