Another thing I noticed, on my few sets of cylinders. there is little to no ridges. Seems every water cooled engine I’ve worked on had some wear. Either I just have low mileage cylinders or the rings a more sacrificial on the Corvair.?

Low milage = less ridge and higher the milage the more ridge/wear is present. Only way to really judge diameter is with measuring both round and taper.

Yes, I’ll check for taper. I’m looking at all of my parts. I’m thinking a good winter project is to build a runner from parts on hand. Just add a gasket set and bearings 👍
