Has anyone tried to put vinyl on the dash and add their own padding underneath?

Tough to get the padding smooth around all of the compound curves on early dashes.
The foam backing was molded to the shape with the vinyl cover using heat.

Why not just buy the color you need from Clarks and install. It is time consuming by the time you deal with the trim pieces around the front of the dash next to windshield plus over glove box and instruments as well as around speaker opening and ash tray opening and under radio box but when finished looks very nice.

best wishes, Steve

The blue one I want is out at the moment. I would like an off white one but they don't come in that color. I considered just getting any color and painting it with the vinyl paint but what if it doesn't look great after or a paint scratch in the painted vinyl makes it look bad?????

So do you mean that in the first year of installing the windshield it will pop out and in easily if you want it to? or do you mean it pops out on it's own without intending it to?

You can also take the old pad off and prep and paint the dash. Earlies look good in bare metal.
