Totally O-T, but a beauty! Mount Rainier wore a cape cloud today.
Date: October 06, 2017 08:46PM

I've lived here over 40 years and am an avid photographer of this region.
Never have seen this formation over "the Mountain" before!

I drove a few miles south to this location - Rainier is about 25 miles East of here.

Modern optics allowed me to travel a little closer at this location.

I shot "the Mountain" from several locations south of me. It was a great day!

Rainier is 14,410 feet and completely dominates the rest of the foothills around it.

That's really neat. An area of the country that should be on everyone's bucket list to see.

Looks like a magazine cover, great shot. Went down the Oregon coast this summer with my bride and our little trailer and I said to her that I would like to do a 'volcano tour'as a part of my bucket list. To climb Baker, Rainier, Hood and Shasta. Have fun with that, she said.

Dan,

Great picture!

I had a great view of the mountain a couple years back from a flight into SeaTac. It is amazing from 30,000 feet. Simply so massive.

Awesome pictures. The cloud reminds me of a soft tortilla shell and someone draped it over the mountain top.

The ground touching the sky!!! what a great shot!! I agree, your picture ought to be on a magazine cover... one neat thing I didn't notice at first, is the vortice like shapes at the very top and to the left of center. cool.

Dan...are you familiar with the location in east Oregon that you can see seven major PNW peaks?

There is a monument on the side of the road that my wife and I stopped at but cant remember the road.

This was the list...I think.

Hood
Adams
Rainer
Shasta
St Helens
Jefferson
Three Sisters

Here is a photo of Mt. Rainier that contains a Corvair. I believe it is in Ellensburg WA. Now this thread has Corvair content and the OT can be removed.GG

Interesting and beautiful. I wonder if some volcanic activity caused this!
