More FC Bumper Guard tales

I recently posted that I'm looking for more Early Car bumper guards to make into FC guards. Thank you to those who have responded.smileys with beer

While working in the Man-Cave, performing the transformation, I took a few shots.

Sizing and re-sizing, double checking fit on a section of FC bumper.

The upper mounting tab has to be repositioned and welded in. For the car, this tab is down in the now opened up FC bumper area,

And finally...One of these 4 guards is a OEM Fc bumper guard. All 4 have been re-chromed. The lighting at night picks up the yellow color from the Man-Cave plywood wall's. Also I have switched to LED shop lights.

So for fun, any guess which guard is the original OEM?

A bit further along with these. Here the guards have been reshaped to fit FC bumpers. This is preliminary. The final edge dressing will happen next.
Once again fit is checked with a FC bumper.

Once that's done the guards get all the rust removed that occurs in the back or inside of the guards.

The last picture shows the positioning and alignment tool I made that holds the upper mounting plate in the guard in the proper place for welding. This has to be done correctly so the mounting hardware will attach the bumper guard just like the OEM unit.

Checking fit.

The last shot shows a guard that is ready to go to California Corvir's. The welding is done. Final inspection made. And the guard is ready for the chrome shop. The bumper guard with the Red paint is an original OEM guard. I have a few I can use to verify and compare to what I am doing.
Now I just have 17 more to work on between now and Thanksgiving!eye rolling smiley

Don't worry... I'm still having fun!drinking smiley

And finally when they have gone through the polishing and chrome plating process... we wind up with the finished product. The guards I have here at the cave, I have painted the back's or inside.
Just for fun.... One of the ones on the bench is OEM.
I will be getting the newly completed ones off to Calif. Corvair's real soon.
Check Jeff's on line catalog for when these will be available.
