ok so basically get another carb first? Where do you get the adapters for it though?

Ask around the forum for adapters anybody may be looking to sell. Clark's carries the dcoe adapter but I heard recently they were out? Michael Leveque makes qjet adapters. Adapters also pop up on ebay all the time.

My 2 cents Troy. My quick word of advice from more than 50 years of experience is, getting running stellar with the factory setup. I have played with lots of stuff over the years. Its all fun and its all challenging. A proper functioning YH set with the weight of your car should be blistering. The only problem is you may be through the first two gears before the turbo decides to wake up. Too bad your not closer where I could give a ride. My current build uses a YH with high compression heads and octane cut pistons. Ceramic coated exhaust and a clearanced compressor. Also a touch of water/meth, just for luck.

ok, that also is true, once i get it done and all together, and start to really rip it open, you wont really want anymore i dont think, the first 2 gears dont really do anything, you usually start in 2nd and go from there.

That's why many, with Swingaxle VW's used the Hadley TransVair kit.... better gearing....just no OD in high...

Did you follow the Subaru transaxle topic recently?

Won't want more? Bahahaha of course you are going to want more! Once you get the taste of boost you will want to be turning it up, trust me. But I agree get it running well as is for now and if and when you decide down the road you want more then start collecting parts to do it right. I'll tell you right now it is not a cheap endeavor to hop up a turbo motor while keeping it in the safe zone.

yup i did, sorry what do you mean by OD? Its really not that big of a deal, not easy to stall in first unless you drop the clutch and/or have a lightened flywheel.

No mostly gear 4 is 1:1, direct. OD is 5 or 6 and is higher than 1:1. The Alison in my motor homes has two ODs 5 and 6.

i see, it still will be faster than you will have the balls to be able to max the car out, ha. i guess maybe my neighbor was right......he said that this was the single stupidest idea, because the corvair basically lifts up and flys away and putting it into a beetle will only make it worse.

HA yah right, i dont care anyway.

Just for kicks and giggles, if you were a potential buyer of my car and know that its been completely rebuilt and thats its basically the single most rust free car in the state of ohio. And that the transaxle has been built up to handle the power. What would you pay for it? Im not really planning on selling it right away but i want to know the general area of how much money i should put, like up to, into it, if that makes sense.

Keep in mind i most likely will not be offended because i had soooo much fun building the thing, that i really could care less, but if i make a little money on it hey, not too bad.

Throw out numbers and possibly a little reasoning behind it, and what you would pay more for??

Thanks
Troy W

No?
Well, just what are they?
I always assumed they were.
Was taught many years ago in auto-shop class that 3&4 spd trannys are always 1 to 1 in high gear.

Not even all Americans are that Way... Most European cars always were OD in highest hear..

Ford sold a light truck 4 speed that is OD in 4th.

Weird part? 4th is 3rd and 3rd is 4th [ OD]

As the ebay listing says, it's a ford 4 spd Top Loader that was reconfigured.
Mopar did the same with their A833 4 spd. They originally used it in their mid '70s Volare.
Later Chevy used that A833 in their 1/2 tons, but called it a MY6.

Those transmissions are just like the Corvair trans in that the input and out put shafts are in the same axis.

The VW output shaft is from what American transmissions call a cluster gear shaft. No drive is directly from the input shaft to the main shaft output.
