Troy... get the rebuilt Alt. with warrantee...

The problem people have with finding "Zero lash" is normally the culprit.

The book talks about "twisting / spinning" the pushrod??? very difficult for the novice...

With the cylinder on TDC "Compression Stroke" [ intake valve has just closed as the engine is rotated in the CCW direction...

Wiggle the rocker arm on the top of it [ valve end ] in and out until slop is gone [ zero lash ] then turn the nut 1/2 turn CW more...

There are so many different style lifters that Fit... this is the SAFE amount.

yup that what i thought as well only 44 bucks why not??

THanks ill re adjust the valves tonight.

I found zero lash when the rocker just barely wiggles back and forth, not tight but not loose.

Ill try that

Thanks

IMHO, go with the .001 feeler gauge method, for zero lash. No guess work, works for me and everyone that has tried it.

hopefully that will fix the problem, after the parts come from rock auto, turns out you can only buy the end plate bushings in boxes of 5, for 1.95........well i wont run out anytime soon, well and if i screw it up, i got another 4 to try out before problems occur.

Thanks

Troy, if you do get the alternator from Rockauto, make sure that you check for the correct pulley fan before installing it.
I was just looking at the pictures of a "Corvair Alternator" on their website, and both of the options that they sell are shown with the wrong fan!

I would never trust Rockauto for Corvair-related information.
I buy plenty of things from there, but their application info is dead wrong for many items.
That goes for Advance, AutoZone, and O'Reillys, too. They all use the same computerized misinformation.

Rock auto has plenty of good stuff for corvairs at prices you won't find anywhere else. And yes some parts that are obviously not for our cars. All you have to do is look at the pictures or do a little research if there's any doubt.

Yup the alternator came, and it is correct, apparently they will give me back a whole, yes you heard correctly, 5 dollars if i return my old aternator. NOT happening.

Anyway they sent me the wrong bushings, the drive end, instead of the communtater end. Pissd me off, you cannot call them at all, no customer support over the phone at all.

Anyway, the engine is going back in sometime this week, got the offset bushing reinstalled and let the party begin.

And to your post the wolfe, they show the wrong picture on the the bushing for the communtater end on rockauto, and yeah, i would really like to be able to talk to someone about it but no go.

Thanks

Steve asks dumb question: why not return the core
and get your $5 back? Since you are already mad
at the lack of customer service MAKE THEM PAY even
if it is only 5 bucks.

best wishes, Steve

Exactly, what Mattnall said, and i know that it is worth more than 5 bucks. And it will cost more to ship it back, somewhere in mexico apparently, where they remanufacture them i guess.
