Last weekend I stopped by Canepa in Scotts Valley CA and was pleasantly surprised to see this special Corvair powered Genie race car for sale. Read the Overview on their website, very cool history.

I love Genies, and having the Corvair powered one would be really special.

I'm good, but I don't think I'd be able to talk my wife into that one. spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Below is a video of the Genie on the Sears Point race track:

This car is amazing, so low to the ground. One thing I was surprised in seeing was the electric fan, wonder how well it cools.

Clark's Oil Pan, Back-up alarm(?) and Electric cooling fan! Very nice features on a "Historic Racer!
Only three things would improve it in my book.
#1. Get rid of that hideous roll-bar.thumbs down
#2. Lights and License plate installed.thumbs up
#3. Having it parked in MY DRIVEWAY ! ! !grinning smiley

Webster is the shifter brand.

Box on the back is the shifter.

I think it is some kind of ZF

But I don't know so I ask.

It looks like an upside down VW / Porsche transaxle with an adapter.

Phil, that kind of looks like a rhino case for the transaxle flipped upside down?

This is the only pic I took of the rear that shows a portion of the transaxle, not sure of type.

Webster built slightly lower cost Hewland equivalent tranaxles in Mill Valley, CA. Like the Hewland, they were based on the Type 1 VW transaxle case, no VW parts inside. Many parts were interchangeable between Hewland and Webster. Joe Huffaker (Senior) built the Genie Corvair at the San Francisco "BMC" works. Joe Huffaker (Junior), with a little help from his dad, rebuilt the car at their Sears Point Racetrack shops a few years ago. It was a "restification". First a picture of the car at Laguna Seca, a couple of years ago. Then a photo of the original engine Compartment. A few changes.

And I always thought the "Webster" was just the shifter for Mid engines.... thought it was English!

Sadly I only owned a car with a Hewland for a few weeks...flipper... The Big thing the the Hewland was the totally interchangeable gearsets?

I watched both the video and the advert. A huge amount of money for a car, in the video, got passed by everything. Fun for sure but that losing is a real sticking point for me. Well, that and the house sized price.

Bob,
I noticed that too in the video, it was disappointing to see. But also noticed that this was the first lap of the new owner. So maybe he was going easy. Anyway love the car, great history, wish it was in my garage. Saw the car advertised on another site for $129K before it got to Canepa.
