A pan that deep can be problematic on a lowered Corvair coupe or sedan, or over speed bumps.
PM me if you whish to know how I know this!!
Great for FC's vans etc.

Hmmm...I never looked inside an Offenhauser deep pan before, so I didn't realize that oil returning from the heads has to flow all the way to the back of the engine through relatively small channels around the baffles and then through relatively small central baffles before reaching the oil pickup. I'm sure Offenhauser engineers knew what they were doing when they designed the baffles, but it looks like there is some potential for oil starvation.

BFR.... look at the Case!! We are basically "dry" no oil can ever be churned by the rotating crank, or the windage..

Doesn't make sense to me

Not talking about churning or windage. I realize that there is a barrier between the crank and the pan. That is not the point. The Corvair engine is essentially "oil cooled" with the majority of that cooling occurring as a result of oil circulated to the heads and returned to the pan through the pushrod tubes. Those tubes dump the oil into the perimeter of the pan where the Offenhauser pan has baffles and restricted flow. That was my point.

I forgot to mention that I do not know what BFR means. Please elaborate.

Nevermind about the BFR. In this day and age, I thought it was some kind of slur, like BFD, rather than a reference to my user name. Sorry about that.
