Battery recommendation, please
Posted by: RonnieG ()

My '65 turbo came with a smallish Interstate Battery.

Wondering how big / haw many cold cranking amps I should buy when this one bites the dust?

Suggestions?

Fortunately, they dont make batteries like they used to. A modern battery that is relatively small will have no trouble starting an old car. You really don't need to worry about CCA.

But the correct (physical) size battery will fit in the battery tray properly..

9 to 1 CR Vairs take less than 100 CCA's with AC.

Aside from physical size, you also need to check the positions of the positive and negative. If they are reversed, you have to install the battery "backwards" with the terminals towards to quarter panel. The cables may or may not be long enough but the bigger issue is that your tools get dangerously close to the metal panels and you risk shorting if you're not careful about disconnecting the negative first.

Yes, the F at the end of the 24F size number, means "ford" which used reversed terminals. I guess some folks don't know that!
