Which Communique about 67 corvairs?
Posted by: vwbusman66 ()

I am trying to locate the CORSA Communique wherein an article was written outlining what makes the 1967 Corvair special. I believe it was written by Mark Corbin.

Spring 1975 would have been a Cora Quarterly.

I am looking at the spring 1975 CORSA QUARTERLY right now. Inside is several articles on the 67 models including colors/accessories and factory option equipment PLUS an article by Edward Romney (owners report) PLUS from Motor Trend magazine a report on 67 models and the Mark Corbin article.

Also news of the upcoming national convention in Seattle in 1975. Hmmm, I wonder how many reading this tonight were at the Sea-Tac Motor Inn in 1975. Concourse at the space needle and more. I know John Jackson and I were there.

best wishes, Steve

Hello all: I am correcting myself and feel very foolish
because I forgot one of the most important men who
were a part of CORSA: Tony Fiore. He was the editor of
the QUARTERLY and author of books and one of the most
dedicated of all members through the years.

For the Record!

That edition in 1975 was supposed to be titled "A Transitional Year" and NOT a "Traditional" one. My reason was because it is like a bridge from the '65-6 design school of thought to the '68-9 school of thought. Tony bungled my title.

But no hard feelings, as the first line of the article seemed to help make the point.

As to the recent articles, they are in the CC, volume 38 number 8.

There was a very good article for the Stock Corvair Group of CORSA that had some detailed color pictures from less than 10 years ago. It was hosted on the CORSA site up to within the last year. I just checked the link I had saved and it is no longer active.
Mark Corbin was involved in the article as it had a lot of pictures that he supplied.
Mark, Do you know the one I am referencing? It had a lot of pictures of your loaded sedan that you sold to Tim.

Lee J,

Unfortunately, no I don't. I've written so many articles for CORSA that I can't remember which one you're referring to.

If you could give me a date, even approximate, I might be able to find it in my library.

Don't know what you would like to know, but '67's are wonderful cars. I like '66's the best, but every '67 I've worked on has been a great car. It has the '66 styling (aside from front seats and modified dash pad) and the upgraded safety features of dual M/C, collapsible steering column, steel door hinges and other minor upgrades.

Absolutely, Mike! As my old time garage mechanic used to say, you slobbered a bib full there. grinning smiley I've always had great luck with '67's.

As to the Astro buckets vs. the bench/buckets of the '66-earlier style, I've always said that it depends on whether your bucket fits that bucket.confused smiley

The CORSA site can be difficult to manuever through.
The article I was referencing might be in the archives on that site under the Keeping it stock articles. I saved pictures from it awhile back but it featured
info on door lock buttons, seat belts, steering wheels, dash pad, upholstery and interior color differences between Monza and 500, rear view mirror info, accessories and a/c info unique to the 67 model year.

James,

Need a copy? I think I have a couple of spares.

Drop me a PM.

P.S. All, BTW H&M made a mistake in my article, which they eventually retracted. I wrote that the shoulder belt buckle holster was screwed to the "B" pillar, and they changed it to read "roof" instead, thinking that hardtops don't have "B" pillars. Yes they do, but it just doesn't extend up past the beltline. (Besides, what would the rear doors on a 4 door be attached to?)

Surprisingly, I am a CORSA member so I have access to all of the past and current publications and as soon as you gave me the number, I was able to locate the exact article I was asking about.

I appreciate the offer.

Thanks for the help guys.
