My 65 Corsa Turbo ran 350-400 normally IIRC, been a very long time ago though. 200 is the gauge start on a Corsa and I believe the Spyder is the same which would be a cold engine or dead gauge/sender or lack of power to said gauge.

Yes to 350 - 400 °F, and Spyders will go to 500 °F with very spirited driving.

Ok I had the engine ideling for 20 minutes and still only showing 200.

When I turn the key the needle does move which could indicate that there is power to the gauge.

I guess maybe the sender is dead

My Monza will idle around 250 or so, but it has open air doors. Only real test on the car is to drive it as testing the thermister requires removing it and heating it up in an oven, Gauge test is easier as you just ground the wire from the sender and turn on the key, gauge should peg 600, sadly I don't know where said wire is on a '64 back.

My 62 Spyder runs 300-325 around town driving and 375-425 on the highway depending on outside temp and top up or down.

Mine shows about 350 unless I'm driving hills then it goes up to 375-400. Never seen it exceed 400 yet.

You'll have to get it out and drive it. Sitting idleing will not get it up to normal temperature. When I drive mine on the highway cruising at 60 in 90 deg temps I will see 400 deg, very reasonable at the ambient temp. Look for 400 deg.

If it don't go, chrome it!

Make sure both air doors on the bottom rear of the engine are closed when the engine has not been running for some time. If they are open it's because the bellows have failed and the default is to fail open rather than closed, but the downside is things don't often warm up properly on the affected side. You should be able to push them open against the "spring" pressure and they should shut again when you release them.

I am going to try one of those new Vairtrix sensors in my Corsa and see how that works. I will report back once it arrives and I have had a chance to install and test it.

My Corsa 180 idels at 200. Driving around town gets around 300. On the freeway crusing on freeway will usually hang around 300. Get on the boost or going up hills gets up yo 400. High speed driving will get it to about 450-475. Running without lower shrouds.

Anyone know if our thermistors have "soft" failure modes? Ie. not a hard failure with a dead short or open circuit. Do they tend to drift with age and if so, which direction is most common?

In the old days, most people assumed that if you had a thermistor in your stash that wasn't physically broken, it was good to go. Not sure about that anymore...

An update on this. I got it working by fixing the cabeling in the engine bay. Now it shows 210 when ideling, around 300 when driving and goes up 400 when pushing the car up a steep hill. Great when it works smiling smiley
