No, what is sad is that this and other threads (terminology, Sedan definition, etc...) were all done many times on Virtual Vairs list serve and drove away many good users who don't really give a flip. Sure miss lclc. Lord I hope someone never gets on Facebook or I'll have to move on to Instagram... Sighs...

The whole point I got out of this thread and its always been the case with every car group I have belonged to is that everyone is looking for that unique/rare/different car in the pack of mass produced cars.
Rare model
Rare options
Rare color combo
Get off your wallet and go buy something rare if you want something rare.

I like this forum because you can look at only the things that interest you. I didn't think I was interested in this topic but I can't seem to help myself.
I quit Virtual Vairs a long time ago because you had to wade through it all. Seems like Facebook is like that but I don't really know.
Last week a $500 Corsa convertible project disappeared from local Craigslist in just a few hours. I wonder if a Monza would languish there? Just kidding.

I went back and reread the entire post. Could you please point out where the info put out by Mark concerning Corvairs was not fact based?

Mark C.,

I have to ask....

If a Corsa has Dog dish Caps on it, can a Monza owner look down on it?

Now don't get all twisted up in a knot, it's all in jest!grinning smiley

I have a Greenbrier Deluxe. I can look down on those other lowly FCs, which don't have the deluxe features. It is just like a having Corsa. But I don't.

ps: A VAIR IS A VAIR IS A VAIR. until you have a vehicle that was produced in hundreds and is appraised in the hundreds of thousands, you sure shouldn't get snotty for having a Corsa or a 4 spd or a turbo OR à 140.

I was just reading "Chevrolet Corvair Photo History" by Monty Montgomery. He says "The most prestigious of all 1965 Corvairs was the Corsa convertible". $74 is a good price for prestige. Websters says prestige is importance in the estimation of others, perhaps the fellow in 1972 thought he was getting a low estimate. But would it be his prestige to own anyway. And here I thought I was done.

500's YeaH! Thems the Racin' Corvairs!
Kent Sullivan's 5 speed platform is a 1966 500 with the big-bore and webers + plenty of other go-fast stuff.

Vairy Nice!

Don't really know why Don Yenko didn't start with a 500 series for the Stingers.
I'm sure he coulda got the corsa instrument panel on a COPO, eh? - If he really needed it - put in a Tach, oil pressure, head + oil temp and hit the road course.
Throw out all the seats, etc.
Kinda makes you go "hmmmmm"

I was surprised to read that 500s outsold Monzas in 68 and 69. For relevance, perhaps a certain percentage were a "body in white" sort of a thing to build your own "Corsa Tribute". Ha!

Were customers actually ordering more 500 models than Monza models or was it because Chevy was simply building more 500s when the end was near.

Seems a reasonable conclusion that if they had finite amount of parts remaining in the supply chain they could build far more base versions than deluxe and would not be willing to commit to restocking orders of Monza items in the last few years.

When the announcement came, everybody ran down to the Chevy dealer and bought up whatever he had in stock. The Monzas went quickly, but even the 500's were bought up and put away. People then turned around and drove the Monzas, some into the ground. This is the reason you'll find a lot of '69 500's surviving, percentage-wise, as opposed to other years, and even vs. other '69 Monzas. I lived through that time, and that seems to be my observations.

With the louvered rear deck lid rain and debris would fall directly into the cooling fan. Hope they don't use the heater or defroster much when it rains.

Louvered rear deck lid to help heat escape because its air cooled! Brilliant! lol

Translation: I screwed up my deck lid because I have no idea how a air cooled corvair works and want to show my ignorance by explaining How I screwed up my deck lid, And What about those tail pipes! confused smiley
