Qualcomm is still there and it's parking lot too! Tons of car events still going on. It is owned by the city not the LA Chargers.Besides, we have way more options available.

According to the local SCCA group, they still have events scheduled there - at least for a while.

I was thinking about a side event that would stay in the "Navy" theme. ...How about launching a very rusted EM Corvair off the steam catapult into the bay off of the "USS Midway"to be a fish place and divers spot? We already have a sunk Canadaian destroyer off the coast. ..We would have to import the rust bucket from the east....we don't have any here! ....could get up to 150 MPH!!! ...all kidding aside, there will be Hornblower boat trips around the bay...Coranado Island...NAS ...destroyers...present day flat tops...submarines. ..Point Loma. etc. ...Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo.

San Diego State has an option to used Qualcom in both 2019 and 2020 under it's current lease contract.

The San Diego mayor is/has been pushing a plan to "give/sell" Qualcom to a private group that wants to bring a soccer club to San Diego. The mayor was pushing for a special election to approve his plan. City council has declined to fund the special election.

SD State pulled out of negotiations with the Soccer City group several months ago, saying the plan did not meet San Diego State's needs.

San Diego State wants the Qualcom Site for it's own use...

Who do you think the voters would give the site to? A developer who will make a ton of money off the site or San Diego State?

My money is on San Diego State! That keeps the very valuable and unique site in public hands.

This is from the SCCA Calclub website dated May 17,2017:

Just received an email from SD Region. In a nutshell...

SD Region just meet with the stadium to schedule second half 2017 dates. We were told that the date for closing the stadium has been picked. The gate's will close December 31, 2018, including the parking lots.

The stadium assures us that they explained to the city that the parking lots are a valuable asset, and can make money. However, the stadium does not believe that anybody at the City listened, or cares.

All city employees that work at the stadium have been told to seek transfers to other city departments, and to not wait to the last minute expecting a reprieve. While very narrow circumstances that could extend the closing date, the stadium said not to expect that, and for all the car groups to explore other options.

My guess is that it will be sold to developers - brings lots of $$$-$ into public coffers via taxes over time.

Meanwhile autocross enthusiasts will find another venue, I'm sure.

Keeping with Paul Kehler's theme:

I much preferred seeing the wild animal park over the zoo, it is by far the best zoo I've visited so far. Well worth the ride out of town.
Isn't the water over there a bit deep for divers to see the car?

With so many things to see and do in San Diego, we will have a hard time simply picking which sites/attractions we will be able to include in a 4/5 day convention!

We picked the convention dates so those wishing to come early will have the July 4 3 day weekend to enjoy San Diego. And the weekend after the convention. The Crowne Plaza Hotel will be extending the CORSA rate before and after the convention.
