So sad it is a weekend earlier than usual. Wife and I will not make it this time around. sad smiley

If you've never been it is a great event with lots of swap bargains and parking on real grass for both swap and show. Good times and good folks!

Simply amazing to me that the Fan Belt Toss has been going on for 40 years now!
I never expected it would still be going on back in 1977.

I first attended in 1989... It was in Indio that year. Brought my Glasspar 16ft with Wayne 100 power.

It's a great weekend. I enjoy sitting in my swap meet spot, visiting with old friends. making new friends and just relaxing and selling a few things.smileys with beer

Sometimes we have visitors from Europe and even Australia come to the biggest Corvair Swap Meet on Earth.

I attended my first in the early 80s. Looking forward to being there in October.
Do any old timers remember our Corvair swap meets that were held at the Briggs Cunningham museum in Costa Mesa or is it just me? Marty Katz remembers them as well. It was good chatting with him in Missouri last week.

Vagabond PS says the club has not blocked rooms yet for this year - so they will not make reservations with the group rate.

All this talk about attending old FBT events reminds me...We are having an OLDEST FAN BELT TOSS T-SHIRT CONTEST. So dig them old tee shirts out and bring'em to the banquet Saturday night.

Best room rate I have found is about $76/night. And that is a non refundable rate. Regular rate seems to be about $90/night if you book soon. Typically prices rise as you get closer. Think I paid $120 last year less than a week in advance.

We are extremely honored to present to you our first confirmed guest speaker for your Saturday Night banquet.
Cory Welles.
Documentary film making has never been a spectator sport for Welles; she prefers to dive in headfirst and experience as close to as possible what her subjects have gone, or are going through, in order to fully understand the story at hand. For ’32 Hours 7 Minutes,’ Welles spent over a day and a half in the backseat of a BMW M5, running multiple cameras and field producing, while traveling upwards of 160mph in order to capture the story.

'32 Hours 7 Minutes' is a documentary film that takes its title from the US transcontinental speed record, set during the 1983 US Express (a secretive race from New York to California). A successor to the famous Cannonball races, drivers were essentially breaking the law nonstop, driving as fast as they could to cross the Unites States. The total distance, start to finish: 2,874 miles (4,625 km).Over 2 decades later, when suspicions arise about the legitimacy of that record, Director Cory Welles climbs into the backseat of Alex Roy's infamous BMW M5 and races across the country, attempting to break 32 hours 7 minutes, to prove that it's real.
