On the hunt for Fitch Sprint emblems
Posted by: Sir Thomas ()
Date: June 20, 2017 01:16PM

I'm on a search for Fitch Sprint badges to go onto my 1965 Corsa coupe. I tried to acquire some that were pitted, but acceptable on ebay this week, but ended up losing the bids. I know it's a long shot, but in case anyone has some they are willing to part with I have a car coming back to life that would really enjoy having some. One came on the car along with a number of other Fitch items, but that one is in really bad shape, so the search is on.

If you have some that you would like to see go to good use please let me know. I'll be at the Convention next week or can be reached by reply to this post.

Thanks!

I now have a lead on one, would love to find two more Fitch Sprint emblems. Looking forward to the CORSA Convention as I'll be there starting on Tuesday.

yes if the car had them and it is documented, no shame in recreating. possibly a better value too.

I've been considering printing some. I have two emblems currently; one that came on the car (documented back to at least 1975), but it is very pitted. The other was given to me recently and is much nicer. It might make for a great model to use with a 3D printer to make some more. I don't happen to have a 3D printer, but I suspect some are around that could be found.

I must tell you how and when I got mine " sorry but this is true " at the 1992 convention in Atlanta a vender had 2 in a glass display case, I asked the price and he said $5. so I gave him $10. and he gave me back $5. I remember at the Carlisle convention a guy was trying to sell them for$185. I don't remember if it was for one or two, no matter he lost me with the $185.

Maybe it is time for some one to reproduce them?

Rich Loving and Dan Spray made some, they were nice but not like the originals

Gene is correct.

I used a couple NOS emblems I had in my collection to have a mold made.

The only issue was that when casting you need to make the mold slightly oversized as the metal shrinks as it cools.

So "my" repo's were just a hair smaller than the originals.

I had 100 made and it took me about 5 years to sell though them all.

This was in the early id 90's...

One of my NOS originals were destroyed in shipping during the process.

I have only seen a few sets move in the last few years..one set recently came up for sale on FB and was quickly snatched up.

Good luck on your hunt...

According to the type of 3D printer and the material used, you may not get what you want. There are a lot of variables in 3D printers.

Gene, I'm working on the Delorean's Flux Capacitor with the hope of going back to the 1992 Convention so I can offer you $10 for the two you bought. That way we both win smiling smiley

Thomas sorry they went with the car when I sold it to Jeff Kent in 2006. I got it to GOLD in concourse judging and then got hooked on autocrossing.

I certainly understand the idea of getting hooked on autocrossing. I'm there right now as that is the primary purpose of my Sprint. Fun times. Congrats on having reached GOLD status. That takes a lot of careful attention to detail and tons of time.

I might still have some from Dad's collection. He bought them new from the local dealer along with many of the other Fitch accessories at the same time he purchased his '64.
I think he replaced them later when the car was painted and these are the old ones.
But it might take a bit to find them. If you find some in the meantime, jump on them!

I'll let you know what I find and their condition. Seem to remember some pitting too, but they looked cool enough still to think they'd go well on one of his old wall displays if I ever got roundtoit, as he used to say.

This is the very stuff that you hate to let go of, but as long as they have a better home with someone that will actually use them, it should feel like a good thing.

Thanks for the thoughtful offer, Paul. If you find them they definitely have the opportunity to go to a good home where a 2-year father & son Fitch Sprint project is coming into the final stages.
