wrapped belt how tight when engine HOT

good afternoon

as the subject says how tight should a wrapped belt be when the engine is fully warmed up.
should you be able to move the pulley at all?
the reason I ask is when cold the belt sounds like it is flapping a little at idle
and sometimes when fully hot but I can move the pulley with one finger but not easily. it is idling around 500-550 with the A/C on and in gear.

If belt is heard "flapping a little at idle" I would probably tighten it just a little bit more.

Also, look for any rust on any of the pulleys.

Also, if the carburetors are a bit out of balance, the belt can make that flapping sound. Especially with the Powerglide transmission, idling, in drive gear.

When Cold, should be able to "just" move the alt/gen fan with finger. It shouldnt be super loose. I make mine so they will pull thru with a squeegee squeaking sound.

Then,

When Hot, you should NOT be able to move the Alt/Gen fan with your finger.

Meanwhile, rough (rusty on belt slot) pulleys, Bent Pulleys (even a little) rough idle (PG especially).

You could try bumping the idle up a skosh to see if that helps.

hope these thoughts help!
