Seats and AC for 1966 Corsa Coupe
Posted by: rodfrazer ()

I own a recently restored 1966 Corvair Corsa coupe and would like to replace the front seats and perhaps add air conditioning.
Seats: The current seats are neither good looking nor comfortable. Have any of you replaced your seats? If so:
• Are you happy with the replacements?
• Do the replacement seats look look good in a Corvair?
• What is the upholstery on the seats you used?
• Do you know of any replacement seats that you think are the best? For cost reasons, I would like to get replacement seats from a junkyard.
• Were your seats easy to fit into a Corvair?
Air conditioning: I also want to add air conditioning. Have any of you added AC to your car, and if so, would you please share what type of unit you used, where you got it, if you are happy with it, etc.
I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Factory stock A/C (made for the 66 Corsa) works very well. This includes using R12 refrigerant. I have picked up a couple of the parts at the Fan Belt toss as well as conventions and also from parts cars.

In 1971, I installed the factory a/c system in my 1969 Monza. I got it from a 1967 Corvair in an L.A. area junk yard. Because the 69 had A.I.R., I ordered the correct a/c mounting bracket for a 140 hp engine and A.I.R. The system worked very well till the end of the cars life in 1985.

I have installed the factory system or a hybrid system in so many cars that I've lost count. If you need help, call me at 419-468-4942, and start talking when it stops ringing.

I have a set of seats from a Mercedes, found them at a pic-a-part, $15 each, they are black leather, were easy enough to install, I like them as far as comfort and look good to me, the seats were from a 4 door so don't tilt, not an issue for me as no one ever goes into the back seat.

Just bought a 66 Corsa coupe and the fellow that restored it put in ProCar Pro90 1300 seats and rails. These particular ones are valour but if it was my choice, I would have gone with the vinyl. You can get them from Jegs, Summit or equivalent. They are a few bucks but much better than stock. I'm 6'3 and shrinking and about 215 lbs.

The restorer bought the material from Procar for the back seat and did that himself. A little crooked but not bad.

CorvairKid used Chrysler Sebring Convertible seats in his 66 500. They look good and have Shoulder Belts as well. I have this on my 'bucket list' for my 67 Monza.

What happened to this guy? 1 post and he in gone. Was he insulted with the replies he received? I for one was interested in seeing his restored Corsa.
