1974? I was 14 years old in 74. I still remember watching the president of the United States resign the office he held live. Then 8 months later I remember watching as we pulled out of Vietnam also live.

We see these Corvair collections because we are involved in the hobby, I think there are so many large collections because throughout the years they were given away or at least cheap. Just think how much that collection would be worth if it were Camaros.

That is how being a Corvair Nut all started for me.

Nobody wanted them and my Dad started buying them up.

They were so cheap that anybody could make a flip buck.

As much as I hate to say it...Thank You Ralph Nader!!!

That residence reminds me of places those junk collectors on TV go to.

Local authorities will probably set a removal date and subsequent fines thereafter until the property is cleaned up.

I would guess he'll be lucky to sell 5 or 6 of the Corvairs.

I reckon the cost to haul each one away would far exceed their value.

The odds are some local scrap yard will get the job.

Kinda sad.

On a positive note though, all our remaining Corvairs will go up in value!

I see that suggestion a lot, but the value of these cars does not justify the transportation cost to a far away business such as the Ranch. The manpower alone to load and drive a flat bed would be thousands of dollars, not to mention gas, equipment wear and tear...

I was born in '78 and keep my rusted shut brake cylinders because who knows? Maybe some guy wants a rebuildable unit! (I was able to extract all but one with a press)

WCorsa you are probably right. I just talked to Mike this morning and what we both fear is that the cars will all go to the crusher. There are some rare and valuable parts scattered amongst all the cars. It's often why he bought them. Things like quick steering, tinted glass, a/c, heavy duty suspension, etc. All too much to afford him time to strip the cars.

Time is slipping by Mark. Time to get some club members together and strip those cars.

OR better yet just rent a small yard that is correctly zoned and put the cars inside. Maybe find a yard with an empty corner and offer to share rent for a while and get the cars stripped.

That option is not in the cards Steve as these cars are owned by an individual (Mike) that is not doing anything with them. And least not yet.

Mr. Corbin knows Mike better then any of us but if I can give my opinion, I've known Mike for about 10 years and he is as nice of man you could meet and what a great corvair mechanic but he is a horder. It's a sad situation and I truly believe all these corvairs will be crushed. I totally agree with Mr. Shortle, Mike owns these corvairs and my opinion is they will be all lost.

I understand that Mike owns them. I am sure everyone understands there won't be much time to do something when the hammer falls at the city. It is Mike's choice either do something or the shredder will be the fate.

Suggesting Mark is because as I read his posts he is a friend of Mike. Again two choices as I see it; part them quickly or store them.

Mark (67airvair),

IF,... it was coming down to the crusher,...what would be the chances of having a special, quick, on site/online Corvair auction, and everything removed in a few days, if Mike and the City approved? Wouldn't that be a better option than a crusher,...even tho not a good option, I am sure with Mike? At least some cars and parts would be saved. Just a thought.

Really sad situation, with Mike not knowing what they may do, and maybe in a short time.
