Different Camshaft-Lobe Widths

Every time I begin something new on my engine I come across something that just doesn't look right.

Today, I installed the crankshaft bearings in preparation for Plastigaging.
After laying the camshaft in place I took a look at the wider camshaft lobes and noticed that when lined up with the lifter hole, it appears as if only about 2/3 of the lifter face will be tapped by that lobe (top image).

Then, I took a look at the camshaft in place in another engine (bottom image) and noticed that the lobe width is much greater in that one than the one on mine.

I'd ordered this camshaft from Clark's several years ago. It had been wrapped up until today. Do I have the wrong camshaft?

Please advise.

Thank you.

Frog

. . . and, no, I haven't finished cleaning up my case.

Narrow one will fit all engines.

Wide one is for use with 140ci and 145ci Crankshafts

The lobes are narrower to clear the rod ends. Turn it over slowly and you can see it.

. . . and because the lifter is designed to rotate, that the cam lobe only "taps" 2/3 (3/4) of the lifter per rotation is no problem. Right?

Thank you.

Dave Motohead,

I don't what that's there for, but it's actually raised about an eighth of an inch. I does look as if it's cut in, I agree.

I see the case is cut with the same groove as the cam. Cant be the washer because the groove is cut in between lobes..
