Local San Diego mechanic
Date: May 19, 2017 02:53PM

Does anyone know a "living and breathing" mechanic in San Diego for my 1961 Rampie? The local club comes up blank with one guy who used to do it and another that is MIA and over 80. I rebuilt it all the way up in Chino (110 miles away) and I want a local so if it is a more minor breakdown, I have somewhere to have it towed to. I am randomly now posting to websites that fix "classics" but so far Corvairs send them screaming into the night. Thanks for real advice.

The 80 year old has a small garage and only does engines and transaxle AFAIK No room for cars.

There are several here in your area who seem to work on cars all the time.....but I'll have to let them speak up!

I'm retired....but 1,000 miles away.

WHAT!!!... I'm 73 1/2 .....Working on three FC, two PG rebuilds, three diff. rebuilds, three 4 spds, .. eight carb rebuilds, ...five engine rebuilds, ...I'll have to live 'till I'm 80 to finish everything! ...so much for retirement!.....I'm planning on being shot by a jealous husband when I'm 83 !!! ...See everyone at the "Fan Belt Toss" in Oct. ...I'll have a running engine there along with rebuilt transmissions and differentials.

Last time I was at Paul's he said that he had worked on the Model T assembly line. That alone would put him into triple digits!

Fred,
Come to the club meetings and meet some Vairheads. Thet is what I did and then my 64 vert differential bearing went south for the winter and it will be back on the road by the end of the month.

There's a guy back east as well, using the moniker.
