CRS - Lower left heater hose shroud removal, EM
Posted by: Paulsgt ()

Guys,
Working on my 62 Monza. Getting really perfectionist about cleaning and painting. I cannot get the lower left (drivers side) heater hose shroud off. Do I have to drop the exhaust manifold to remove that piece?

On a slightly different note. I was a bit amused at how the heater hoses completely disintegrated when I touched them. 28,000 mile car. Guessing they were original.

Thanks!

Thanks Matt. It's loose and moves around about 1/2" but won't come off. Engine is installed in car. I've tapped on it with a rubber mallet a few times but it's not coming off.

???

Remove manifold. It may come out towards the top IF you don't have the front shroud and the top shroud on (even if loose).

Well I got it. Took the manifold off. It looked like there was so much dirt and crud packed in between it and the bell housing/block that it wouldn't move enough to get out. Most Corvair work I've done is on LMs and trucks. It may not be any different but this car has never been apart and apparently lived part of it's life on a gravel road.

Wow, I bet I have 10 lbs of dirt, caked mud and muck off this car from around the engine/transaxle. Yeacchhh! Only two more 'dirty' parts to take off (motor mount bracket and skid plate) then I can finish cleaning/painting and reassembly.
