Fuel Filter

What is the consensus, is an in-line fuel filter needed? I only drive about 600 miles per year and would think that the stones in the carbs should be enough?

Everything I have read is that it is a very good idea to put on in and it should be located in the line behind the left rear tire/wheel assembly.

Do NOT install in the engine compartment as rubber hoses can be cut by a thrown belt or hoses will deteriorate and leak fuel. Fire is not your friend in any car.

I'm asking because the PO did put one in the engine compartment. I've got the new incoming steel line and was thinking of putting the filter just where you suggested.

As I am getting older, crawling under a car is not what I look forward to. I have been looking at filters with threaded ports like racers use. Still looking as there are a few out there. I will pull the gun when I get closer to lines building in the engine compartment.

NAPA 3032, WIX 33032 or any metal 5/16" hose inlet and outlet filter. These work above the left rear wheel, with sometimes some slight reworking of the existing metal fuel lines. Replacing the filter in this location does not try to drain the tank while doing it. Otherwise putting it at the tank outlet works good, just get a gasoline bath every filter change!grinning smiley
