dampener = something you use to add moisture

damper = something you use to control oscillation

Sometimes I struggle to get the correct spelling in English!
Here are a few differences that spring to mind, rocker panel is a sill, fender is a wing, left or right side of a car are near side and off side respectively, mind you that refers to the near side or off side to the kerb but you guys sit on and drive on the wrong side anyway! Gas pedal is throttle pedal and gas is petrol. Lug nut is a wheel nut and you would use a wheel brace to undo it not a lug nut wrench because a wrench would be a spanner which is not the correct tool to remove a wheel with. Tyre and colour rather than tire and color, bondo is body filler, a road spring is the coiled metal bit in a vehicle suspension and the gas or oil filled damping device would be a shock absorber.
Maybe I should angliciSe my posts to add flavoUr.
All tongue in cheek though, we are all different and wouldn't it be dull if not!

Craig replies:

Webster sez:
"a short drapery or wood or metal frame used as a decorative heading to conceal the top of curtains and fixtures"

So as long as it's hiding something, it's good. Normally hides the ends of the frame rails. In our case it hides the front suspension.

The word is "valance" with two "A"s. cool smiley

Wagon Master, you forgot the capital, that's Channellocks. Registered trademark. smileys with beer

Ha!grinning smiley

Water pump pliers or tongue and groove pliers is the generic name.

Yea, who uses those terms?confused smiley

Balancer, what's wrong with that? I guess it is what you are balancing. If you are modifying weight of an object then you are the balancer! Or maybe you are carrying an object in each hand while walking a tight rope...

Of course the older I get the more I ask for a specific tool by its proper name, such as "hand me the *^&*^$ wrench". "No, not that one, the rusty one". "bigger".spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

I am guilty of using the name "yoke" for both halves of the u-joint assembly on an early Corvair. "remove the yoke form the axle, check for worn splines". and "holding axle just right, insert yoke into transaxle". Oh, wait, that should be differential or third member.... gggggggggggg

Makes one wonder.

Would terminology been different if James Stewart hadn't taken credit for John Wayne shooting Lee Marvin.

Report of 1966 changes among the upcoming new cars.

M/T is at GM proving grounds with Chevrolet staff and the caption reports that the spoiler improves aerodynamics.

Didn't mention that the valance panel hides the suspension....
