Looking for a "late model" turbo accelerator rod.

Jeff at CA Corvairs is going to look through his inventory but doesn't think he has one.

Thanks

I have a bunch of them, various rods that is.

I have parted out several turbo's, any idea how to tell them apart.

65 and 66 are different. The difference is the transmission type.

I'm not sure of the difference.

Mine is a 1965 with a 1966 Saginaw 4 Speed transmission.

Then you need the 66 style rod.

I just did a 63 and didn't have a turbo rod. I just bent it to fit, it's tricky to get the front and the back and the route through the bellows to all line up, lots of trips to the vise for a little bend here or there. I was hoping I could compare it to a 64 I have here but that one is missing too.
I realize we're talking LM here but I wonder if the length is much different than regular Corvairs. I've about 20 rods and actually sorted them into some sub-groups...

Unfortunately I know there is a difference between the early and late turbos but don't know what that is. The one on the car right now had to be reshaped to work but is not working the best.

Hopefully someone will chime in to explain. Pictures are worth a thousand words.

Thanks

I did the same thing that Jim B did. After buying a couple of rods for my '66 turbo car and returning them because they didn't fit I bought a rod from Cactus Corral that was close. I used a big hammer, an anvil and a big block of wood and after a lot of trial fitting I finally had a rod that works.

I have been told that there are four types of accelerator rods. Early and late turbos along with early and standard.

For those of you that have a bunch of these you should be able to figure out the one needed by process of elimination.

Maybe I will have to buy one of each?

Tomorrow I will look at the throttle rods I have and compare it to the one installed on the Corsa Turbo. I have a combination of LM 4 spd manual and PG rods.

The aft end on all turbos "kicks up" instead of down.

With that as filter #1...

The forward end on earlies has about a six-inch leg while the lates have a 4" leg.

I don't know how to tell 65 from 66 (IF there is a difference at all)

I have been told there is no difference between 65 and 66 rods.

Just early and lates.

Guess that I don't have to waste time tomorrow looking at the throttle rods I have. The only one I have according to the description is on my Corsa. And it is staying put.

If anybody does have these and knows for sure what is what I need a 1964 and a 1965. My 1964 Spyder came with a 140 in it so wrong rod, and my 1965 cam in pieces and no rod included. I'll try the Ranch as well.

Can someone make a definitive photo showing the differences? That would be nice.

I've been trying to find a LM turbo accelerator rod for my '65 Corsa as well, with no luck. The rod I'm using now works but the angles are all wrong. I'd sure be thankful if someone happens to have a LM turbo accelerator rod they'd be willing to part with.

Clark's lists 2 different numbers in their Used parts catalog.
CU559 is 65 turbo
CU560 is 66 turbo
But the GM parts book shows the same number for both years
which is 3861884
I have both here but the 66 rod is on the car.
Here is the 65 turbo on top of a 66-69 manual rod to show how dramatic a difference.

EDIT:
I'm getting the darned Forbidden message when I try to attach pics.

To DoctorZ

Unless your looking for a free one CORVAIR RANCH has them.

$40.00 seams a little pricey but if you want the correct part you have to pay whatever the market will bear.
