Since hopefully this weekend I will put in the engine, I wanted to take care of something nagging at me in the back of my mind. I have read that the fuel return "t" rubber hose is prone to leaking. I hate working with gas tanks, lines etc once gas has been in them.

So since I have not put any fuel or brake fluid in the car I took out the front suspension and tank and replaced the rubber "t" with one I made out of brass and proper fuel line. I also not a fan of the small hose clamps, I am always between is it tight enough and oops its slipping. So I prefer the oetiker crimp clams, they seal much better and never have a leak.

Tom - Reading through this thread makes me feel better about you getting the Tulare 65. At least you know what a project looks like.

Seth, the 65 just from the pictures, doesn't even compare to what this project was.

Just a few updates:

I did not want to use the 4 speed switch that hangs down from the transmission so I used what is on the 3 speed cars. The switch bolts to the floor and uses a bracket that is wrapped around the shifter tube to push on the switch when in reverse.

So far so good!

Also I am using the VW style relay to engage the fuel pump. It is mounted down in the engine compartment then goes up to the Ford style impact switch. Works well if the relay does not sense the coil firing it will shut down the fuel pump. I also put in a push button under the dash to prime the system if it sits for long periods of time.

I found that the facet fuel pump sounded like a woodpecker all the time, I'm sure partly due to the fuel pressure bleed off from the gas heater. If it was dead headed like it would be sent just to the carbs it probably would have been fine. I swapped it out with an airtex and it is much quieter.

I also had to make a custom engine wiring harness to accommodate the changes in made in the wiring along with ground directly to the tail lights.

I also repurposed a set of gas tank hooks to hold down the battery with a custom made battery hold down.

Also, those with a keen eye will notice some of the thing I added from the 64 parts cars that I had. grinning smiley

Ended up putting the windshield in myself, the part that took the most time was getting the stainless trim in place before mounting the windshield.

I used a bit too much glycerine and it took a bit to clean up, I think I squeaked while walking afterward grinning smiley.

However, it slid in and took all of 10 min for the actual install.

Took it out on its maiden voyage after the rain stopped.

Drove well, had to up the idle a little and tomorrow I will have to find out why I was getting a clicking in the front right brake. Other wise we had fun.

I know how it is wth spending years working on a project, to finish it, and not be able to drive it much because of rain!

We have had so much rain over the last month that on the days it didn't rain, I had to do yard work. Then couldn't drive the corvair!

Frustrating to say the least, but it looks great. And I'm sure it runs just as nice as it looks!

Great job!
