New windshield and gasket install help needed
Posted by: 63vert ()
Date: April 18, 2017 06:38PM

I'm having new glass and gasket installed on my 62 brier. The shop I took it to has a couple of techs that have installed similar types of glass on antique vehicles before.
The problem they are having is getting the upper corners to suck in. They installed the gasket and trim on the glass, and then placed an installation string in the groove before placing the glass in the lower channel of the van. Then they worked their way up both sides, and the top.
The drivers side upper corner will suck in ok, but the passenger side is giving them fits.
The gasket and glass are from clarks.
Suggestions?

Sometimes they are real pains.

Does yours also have the trim in the rubber?

I've watched Dave's vid, and what they are doing is very similar. And yes mine has the stainless trim too.

I didn't know moto had a video on the FC windshield I though it was Corventuredave...

Ive put in dozens and dozens of windshields, back windows , side glass in so many different cars and trucks ... all roping them in and several FC but still think the replacement FC gasket is too big.... locking strip or not. JMO

it will go .... hint : better tape it like Corventuredave they aren't like most that stretch on and fit nice and tight to the glass

FWIW the repro EM car gasket is too big also... Or the repro glass is too big...or both. The corners won't lay down. I've seen it on several cars.

Well, long story short, after 2 days at the glass shop, I picked up my van with my windshield on the back seats. The ride was a bit breezy 😁
Two hours later I installed it myself.

At least you didn't have them do a "half glass job" on your windshield installation!

Congrats on installing it yourself.thumbs upsmileys with beer

Definitely not impossible, but can be a challenge, especially the first time.

Nice werk!!!

We just did mine. Found that the trim likes to walk out 'ever so slightly' keeping things from settling all the way? Had to pop my driver side upper corner out twice before it went in correctly. That 'L' hook on the trim can be a bear!!

Duct tape was my best friend to get all the pieces together. After that, the installation was pretty easy.

Too bad you have to put those State stickers up there. I remember having to do that when I lived in NY. My Cousin even had to muck up his Model A windshield with State stickers!moody smiley

I think you need to go back to the glass shop and show the "professionals" your workmanship!

I just want to give a shout-out to Hagerty Insurance. They were awesome about covering the cracked windshield. They covered the glass, ribbon, and labor.
Too bad I couldn't get a qualified installer to give my labor money to.
