This topic now has me thinking about a few questions. First, not wanting to highjack topic here however mind escapes me. I have decided to build what I believe will be the last car for myself. Car has a code 02B which I understand February 2nd week (7-13) as I have checked. Would the motor have been issued that exact week? We're the engines waiting prior to assembly of the Fisher body? I asked because again my mind is getting older and with seven 140 engines all the incorrect number I would be looking for further information or possible block myself.

Thanks for your help...Steve

It certainly can be. My 66 turbo is a 03D car and the block is 0324. This is documented on the Protecto Plate.

Craig replies:
Engines were usually two to three weeks behind the body-build date. Third or Fourth week of January would fall in line with your body-build date.

Thanks for checking, Rex. I have the need covered now so good to go. I purchased what appears to be a nicely rebuilt 140 which I will disassemble, check out, and reassemble with the dated RB cases. Progress!smoking smiley

Craig replies: yes a long-block 140, rebuilt, but it's built on a '68 RW case. I have no idea what I'm going to find inside but for the most part it looks OK.

Some worry that the 140 heads have been hogged out to low C/R because there was another set in the late-owner's stash that had suffered that fate. Also, there's a bit of "the orange menace" seeping out from every gasket. Doesn't look horrible but you never know until it comes apart.

Worst case: At least I got a good pan and top shroud!
