New guy looking for his dad's old 65 Corsa Vert

Hello all,

I'm new to the forum because I'm trying to track down my dad's old 1965 Convertible Corvair Corsa.

He did a beautiful backyard restoration on it 20 years (or so) ago, and sold it probably 15 years ago. It was red with black upholstery and a black top. It was mostly original with the only unique identifying marks being that he painted the rear panel black instead of silver, and it had non-original black and chrome hubcaps.

It was sold in Glendale CA to a guy that lived in the Los Angeles area not too far from Glendale.

I haven't been able to track down the license plate, so this is all I've got to go on.

I'm interested in buying it back, or at least letting the owner know to keep me in mind when he is ready to sell...

Here is a pic of the car. The color is a little off, and it's actually a darker red than it looks.

Thanks,

Rick

Welcome to the CCF!! Sadly your pic is not showing to non users of Dropbox..

Make sure you turned on "Share / Public view"

And please try to get the VIN..... that's the one thing that couldn't be changed by now.

So, the distinctive elements in your picture (that might help someone identify the car)

Interior door metal is red (rather than black to match upholstery)
Aftermarket body-color mirrors
"mag" style Wheel covers
Lacks wheel opening moldings

Do you remember anything else distinctive?

I am unable to open your pictures but since a Corsa convertible is kind of a "special" car you might go to some Corvair "special" events in So Cal. The fan belt toss, Calif. Corvairs open house, and Bobs Big Boy in Downey are a few that come to mind. Good luck in your endeavor.

It appears lacking the 140 passenger side dual exhaust tailpipe,...so could have been a Turbo motor, IF, no exhaust modifications had been made from factory stock.

Thanks for the responses!

cnicol - I'm not a Corvair aficionado, so thanks for the tips. It looks mostly stock (to the untrained eye), so the only other thing I'm aware of is the rear panel being painted black.

Timothy - I've been told that it has been spotted in recent years at the Early Rodders in Montrose on Saturday mornings. I'm going to make it a point to swing by there more often.

schuls1 - I know it isn't a turbo motor. It had the 4 carbs and was stock. I have a vague memory of dual pipes, but not sure if they exited out the side or back...

Montrose? That is my area or rather about 80 miles from me. Are you also in SW Colorado?

There is a Montrose (more likely known as La Crescenta) in the LA area.

Tim - He is talking about the LaCanada/Flintridge area north of Glendale, CA. Once in a while I get to that meet when I visit an old car buddy in Montrose who retired from the Nethercutt museum. Great little city up against the mountains.

The meet is early, but the few times I was there some interesting vehicles showed up.

RCrunelle - You might try contacting the L.A. clubs - three of them. Some have Facebook accounts, etc. and might let you post.

Oh That Montrose. I admit I forgot about that one. But I have really enjoyed touring the Nethercutt car and jukebox museum in Sylmar. We did that one as part of the 2008 Corsa convention in Ventura. This year I am really looking forward to going to the Truman Presidential Library in Independence.
