Is Your Daily Driver Worth More Than Your Vair?
Posted by: glivorsi ()

My '06 Mazda was rear ended about a month ago. Not being sure if it was totaled, I researched its Bluebook value and realized that it has depreciated enough that it is now worth about the same or less than my Vair. It was a bit of an epiphany that my econo-classic was now probably worth more than my modern daily driver. How is it for the rest of you guys?

My daily driver is a 2007 BMW 335 6 spd convertible which is worth about $15-16k... My Corvair is my 64 Spyder that is undergoing restoration. If I sold it in it's current state, then the answer would be yes, my DD is worth more. However, by this summer, I'm pretty sure my Spyder will be worth more than the BMW.

Both my daily drivers; 2008 Subaru Outback 195K miles and my 2008 Mazda Miata 61K miles - probably together worth less than my 65 Monza Convertible.

97 Exploder here. 190k. Can buy them all day for 1-2 grand, depending on how beat up it is. Many run, but the OHV engines need intake gaskets or the OHC engines need the timing chains. Gaskets are easy. Timing chains are not.

Greenbrier gets driven about once a week these days. It was my DD until July of 15, when I got the ford.

Our other car is a '13 Mazda 5. I suppose its worth about 7500.

It would be easier the sell my modern drivers but think I could get more cash out of the Vairs, I have a Jeep Liberty that gets about a hundred miles per day for the work commute, a 2002 Tahoe that is in charge of towing anything that needs towing and steps up for travel duty too. I have no plans to buy or sell anything in the near future, even my wife is happy with her 2007 Hummer which is possibly giving the Spyder competition as the most valuable set of wheels because it's orphaned and some people think they're great and you can't buy a new one.

My daily driver is a 2010 Ford Focus Coupe with just over 42,000 miles on it.
I bought it in December of 2014 with 11,000 one owner miles on it.
Even though it is a relatively low mileage car for it's age and in good overall condition, I expect it's "Value is somewhere between 6 & 8 K at the most.

I paid 3K for my 1965 Monza basket case ten years ago and have spent close to 4K for parts but as of this date it still isn't on the road. I imagine if I wanted to sell the Corvair today, I could get maybe 4K for it with all the parts I have acquired. I don't expect to recoup my investment financially. I intend to get my money's worth from driving and enjoying it.

It is Pretty much a tie between the 63 Monza that sold today And my DD a 04 ranger extended cab.

The 63 spyder is now gone too just basically gave it away with 2 motors. 2 extra doors, and another spyder mostly complete interior, and a box of extra body badges for $300.00. Mostly this is fuel to someone's dream. and I cleaned out my storage space.

And the 1966 Sport Coupe is still in rehab and worth maybe $2500.00 in scrap and drive train as it has the front end in crushed in. Looking for a LM convert auto tran with a good body and a shot or no motor then swap the coup motor into the LM vert. Maybe even make the vert a mid engine 140 PG . Kind of like they do the trikes but with a Corvair car body.

Sure!
My go-to D.D. is my trusty Chrysler T&C - an excellent, reliable vehicle, but not on anyone's list of high dollar rides!!

I like putting my car money into interesting 1960s cars, but I must say I do like all the benefits of a few decades of technology growth!
In addition the T&C is a great tow vehicle using my dolly. I've brought many a car home from thousands of miles away using this trusty workhouse.

No.

As a matter of fact, of the vehicles in the livery, the Corvair is worth the most.

Followed by the truck

Then the bug

Then the buick rendezvous.

Then the chinese trike.

My Corvair is worth $2-3k, the engine alone in my DD is worth more than my Corvair.
