Starting a PG engine on a test stand

On a PG engine you need the flex plate and torque converter to have a starter ring gear. To start and run on a test stand, do you also mount the transaxle to support in innards of the converter or just let it flop?

I use a solid flywheel with a pressure plate bolted to it with no plate...just the shell and ring gear.

Like Paul sez, use MT parts.

I once started an engine (on the floor) with the torque converter attached. The TC made a bunch of internal noise after the engine was shut off and was ruined in the process. I suppose it could be done with a junk TC but be sure to label it as JUNK, because it will be!

Paul, I've also done the same. To save time it would be nice to have a pressure plate with a junk diaphragm spring removed so you could access the crank bolts through the PP.

I purchased a cut apart torque converter from Rex J. This way I can install the flex plate that is for the engine and not have to R+R again. He also sold me a "cut off" ear from an old diff. case. RJ Tools seems to have all the cool stuff and at affordable prices.

Im glad I saw this topic....

Was planning on starting my engine on the floor, out of the car, with the PG already bolted up. This shouldn't be a problem, right?

On a similar topic: How do I know if my PG is in neutral when starting the engine out of the car?

Thanks in advance.

Matt
