1987 Buick alternator for my corvair motor in my vw

Question: internally regulated alternator from an 87 Buick.

There are 2 blade terminals labeled "1" and "2" and a "Bat" terminal, and a rubber insulated terminal w/a black rubber cover.

What is the connection with the black rubber cover on it for? Looks like it has an "R" stamped next to it

Bat terminal connects to battery, obviously.
The number 2 gets a jumper wire to the bat terminal.
The number 1 gets connected thru indicator light to ign switch terminal that has 12 volts when ign is on.

Disregard "R".

Curt... any place you want.... Our cars have it at the "Horrid plastic thingy"

Some just connect to the ALT' BAT. term.

I like to run to the front of the car....

It's a Voltage sensing circuit.... tells the regulator when to charge more or less.

The "Bat" terminal is the stud with the plastic insulator. That is the wire that gets the rubber insulator that covers the stud.
The number "1 " terminal gets connected to the ign switch terminal that has power in the "run" position.
The number "2" terminal gets jumpered to the "Bat" stud.
